You may have questions about the kinds of doctors who treat prostate cancer and what they do. During your diagnosis and treatment, you may be referred to the following kinds of doctors:
- Primary Care Provider (PCP):
- A physician who is chosen by or assigned to a patient and provides primary care and coordinates access to other medical services.
- Surgeon:
- A physician who treats disease by performing surgery.
- Urologist:
- A physician who treats problems of the urinary tract in men and women, and of the genital area in men.
- Radiologist:
- A physician who specializes in the use of x-rays and other forms of radiation in the diagnosis and treatment of disease.
- Oncologist:
- A physician who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer.
