About Lupron Depot
Lupron Depot has been used since 1989 for the palliative treatment of advanced prostate cancer.
Lupron Depot suppresses the production of testosterone by the testicles. This deprives hormone-dependent prostate cancer cells of the hormone (ie, testosterone) they need to grow, causing their growth to slow. Decreasing the amount of testosterone in the body can result in a reduction of symptoms related to advanced prostate cancer, such as bone pain or difficulty in urinating. It is important to remember that Lupron Depot is used for palliative treatment and is not a cure for cancer.
LUPRON DEPOT can also cause side effects including impotence, hot flashes/sweats, injection site reaction/pain, general pain, swelling, testicular shrinkage, difficulty urinating, fatigue/weakness, headache, and joint, GI, and respiratory problems.
LUPRON DEPOT may be an option for people who have been diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer or especially if treatment with prostatectomy or radiation therapy has been unsuccessful. Talk to your doctor about whether Lupron Depot is right for you.
One of the most important things you can do is to think of your doctor as a partner in your care. Before doctor visits, spend some time thinking about the questions you’ll want answered. Being prepared in advance can help you talk to your doctor.
